槙島聖護 • shogo makishima [official profiling, pt. 1]
“I want to see the beauty of the human soul, and to confirm it’s truly precious.” (T/N: “輝き,” the word Shogo uses here, was translated as “splendor” in the anime. That said, I feel that “splendor’s” connotation is too grandiose for the meaning of the word, which is “brightness; sparkle, glitter; twinkling.” I have NO IDEA how to capture such a complex feeling in a single word, though; out of personal preference, I used the more humble, nuanced “beauty” instead of “splendor.” BUT PLEASE KNOW THAT THIS ISN’T WHAT HE MEANS, and I would actually love to discuss why he uses such an evocative word in the original Japanese with anybody.)
A humanist on the dark side who’s hopelessly in love with cruelty, savagery, and all the worst aspects of human nature. A born evangelist, he possesses both uncommon charisma and a true gift for narrative.
